Editorial Policy
Before you trust a recipe, it helps to know what went into it. This page sets out the standards each recipe and guide on Avantgardede is held to, from first research through to later fixes.
What every recipe includes
- Exact quantities for each ingredient, a list of the equipment you will need, and numbered steps that are meant to be followed in sequence.
- Prep and cooking times that suit an ordinary home kitchen, not a restaurant line with several burners and a prep crew.
- An explanation of the tricky parts, such as batter thickness, oil temperature or fermentation, either in the recipe itself or through a link to the matching technique guide.
- Notes on common mistakes, swaps and spice adjustments, included only when they help the cook and never to pad out the page.
Getting regions and history right
Snack and street-food cooking in India varies enormously from one region to the next, so the library does not pretend there is a single national cuisine. The origin note on each recipe reflects what is reasonably well documented or widely accepted among food writers and historians. If several regions claim a dish, or its beginnings cannot be pinned down, the note admits that openly and does not settle on one confident answer.
Why there are no nutrition or health claims
You will not find calorie counts or macronutrient tables here. Nobody has had these recipes analysed in a laboratory, and printing estimates as though they were measured would mislead you. By the same logic, ingredients are not credited with particular health benefits. A traditional belief about a spice may be mentioned as a belief, but it is never offered as medical guidance.
Food safety
When a recipe calls for raw meat, poultry, dairy, eggs or deep frying, it carries the relevant safety advice: safe internal temperatures, careful handling and how long leftovers keep. Frying oil is another point we stay firm on. We do not suggest reheating it past its smoke point or storing it badly.
Photographs
Pictures on the site are either taken for it or used under a proper licence, and none are linked from other sites. Where a dish lacks a photograph, a simple designed tile stands in, so the page never shows an unrelated image that suggests how your dish should look.
Reviews and endorsements
Avantgardede carries no reader reviews, no star ratings and no quotes credited to chefs or home cooks. A named person is never shown as endorsing anything here unless that person and the context are real and can be verified.
How corrections are handled
If you think a quantity is wrong, a step is unclear or a regional statement is mistaken, send it through the Corrections page. Each report is compared with the original recipe and, when it matters, with outside sources before anything changes. Where two well-supported versions of a dish exist, we usually add context to the page and keep both, instead of replacing one with the other.

No advertising appears on the site at the moment. Should that ever change, this page will say so.
